COVID-19 & SECURITY

### CHANGING WITH THE TIMES Covid-19 has changed almost everything about our day-to-day lives. Our habits, routines, and the way we interact with one and other have drastically changed over the last year. One of the biggest adjustments that a lot of people have had to make, is the switch from going into the office every day to working from home. ### WORKING REMOTELY As many business made the switch and have their employees working from home, a new set of concerns have presented themselves. With little to no staff on site, office buildings are being left unattended. If they do not already have the proper security features in place, the need to upgrade their security is unavoidable. We have worked with many companies to increase their building security and ensure that their business is protected while it is waiting for them to return to it. The other side of this coin, is that more business equipment and assets are being brought into employee’s homes. This has created the need for upgraded security at people’s personal residences. We have seen more individuals requiring security cameras and intrusion alarm systems installed at their personal homes. We have also assisted in running cabling throughout people’s home offices. This has included running additional phone lines, cabling for computers and cabling for internet. ### HOW CAN WE HELP? We have a wide range of security solutions to suite any level of business, both essential and non-essential. Temperature monitoring and screening devices have been installed throughout essential businesses. Many of these temperature monitoring devices can and have been built directly into the entry system of businesses. This means that if an individual’s temperature is above normal, they would be denied access to the building. Traffic counters have also become essential for businesses to monitor how many people are in their store or building at any given time. Live Remote Video Monitoring has proven to be essential to businesses both big and small. Having the peace of mind that your business, premises, and assets are being monitored 24/7 is a must. Ainger Active Watch is a proactive approach to security. Instead of waiting for something to happen and then reporting it, Ainger Active Watch takes a proactive approach with live remote video monitoring starting at $99.99 per camera a month. Alarm Monitoring is an important part of what we do. Intrusion alarms, elevator alarms, and fire alarms are crucial, life-saving precautions. Knowing that your business is being monitored properly and that emergency services will be notified as soon as possible can mean the difference between life and death. Our clients can breathe easy knowing that their businesses, assets, employees, and visitors are protected. ### WHAT DO YOU NEED? Our dedicated team of experts are always here to answer any questions you have and find the solution that best fits your needs. Whether you are an individual or a business, we are confident that we can work with you to find the best solution possible. Questions, quotes, and consultations are always free of charge. ### What is an Integrated Electronic Security System? Where there is crime, there is a need for security. Electronic security systems have been advancing as crime evolves. The advanced surveillance systems that have been developed over time protect us better with added features and components. An integrated electronic security system is the required tool for surveillance, monitoring, managing, and protecting your assets. The system offers multifaceted support to businesses that are looking to protect their assets with heightened defences and better insight into varying threats. ### Components of an Integrated Electronic Security System Most integrated security systems use a combination of access control and audio and video surveillance and possibly intrusion alarm when required. ### Access Control Access control is the first line of defence in your integrated security system. If installed correctly and in the right locations, it can mitigate a potential security breach and keep the building and property secure. Depending on the sensitivity of the facility, access control can be one-step or multi-step, and may use multiple verification methods such as pin codes, fobs or badges, biometric verification, etc. ### Audio and Video Surveillance Surveillance is the most basic part of any security system as it allows a business to record events in real-time. When we think of surveillance, we think of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV). Finding the right cameras for your needs and knowing exactly where you need them positioned is crucial for protection to be able to identify perpetrators, prevent crime, and recover stolen goods. ### Intrusion Alarm Intrusion alarm is essential when a building will be unmanned for a period of time. Any unauthorized opening of a door or motion in the building will alert the central monitoring station who will in turn alert the authorities or whomever you request. This system can be included with, or connected to the access control system so when a person with authorization badges in, the alarm system will automatically disarm. Cameras can also be connected to the monitoring station so that they can video verify any alarms that they receive. ### Why Integrated Security Matters An integrated electronic security system is imperative for protection against external threats – physical as well as cyber. They help to prevent crimes from happening and also play in important role in taking legal action in the event that you do suffer a security breach. To learn more about your options or about integrated security systems in general, get in touch with us. Whether residential or commercial, we are always here to answer your questions and help in any way we can.

### Your Electronic Security Matters There is a lot that goes into your security system. From the planning to implementation, there are several factors that determine what your system includes and how it functions. Every location is vulnerable to threats, be they physical theft, information theft, life safety risks to employees and patrons, and/or acts of God. With so much to consider, it can be difficult to find the solutions that will work best for you and your business. With that in mind, we have outlined some of the essentials and put together this list of the top considerations for electronic security. ### Are your points of entry (i.e. doors, windows, gates and turnstiles) being monitored? Access control is essential to making sure your premises are safe. There are several different options available and finding the best one suited to your business is not always an easy task. Some access methods include locks, proximity cards/swipe cards, and code or cipher locks. Some questions that are worth asking are: Do past employees/residents still have keys/access cards to the building? Have past employees/residents/terminated employees been removed from having access to the property? How often are codes changed on code or cipher locks? Are locks and locking equipment operating properly? Are these key points of entry being monitored sufficiently? If you don’t know the answers to some of these questions that is a good indicator that it is time to upgrade and enhance your security and procedures. ### Are you able to create an audit of who is entering your building? Knowing how many people are entering your building at any given time has become very important in 2020. With capacity limits and concerns surrounding social distancing, now more than ever you need to be aware of who is passing through your business. But more than knowing how many people are in the building, sometimes you need to know who is in the building. A good access system can tell you who has entered the building, when they entered the building, and whether or not they have left the building. More than that, an access system can allow for certain people to have access to specific areas of the building, while keeping them off-limits to others. This would all depend on the access level that has been granted/specified for each individual. ### Are your premises being monitored for fire or smoke? Life-saving alarms are so important. While we all know this, you would be surprised to learn how many people allow the batteries in their smoke detectors to go without being replaced. Or how many buildings do not have a fire system that will automatically alert the fire department in the event of an alarm. When people’s lives are at stake, there should never be any corners cut. Ensuring that your premises are being monitored for fire and smoke, that the system is functioning properly, and that emergency services will be notified upon alarm is a must. ### Are your premises being adequately covered by CCTV cameras? When thinking about CCTV, you want to make sure that both the interior and exterior of the premises are being adequately covered. Cameras need to be able to record in both daytime and night/low light. One of the most important factors to consider is whether or not your cameras are monitored by a live monitoring station 24 hours a day, off hours only or just reviewed after an incident has taken place in house? These are just a few of the many factors that go into your electronic security. To make sure that you have all the information you need to make an informed decision on how to implement your security measures, it’s always a good idea to consult a Security Expert. Our Security Experts are available to answer your questions any time. We perform comprehensive security audits and site visits at no charge. ### Integrated Security Systems Are Important Whether you run a small or large business, your assets are worth protecting. Keeping your employees, property, equipment, and other investments safe is always top of mind for business owners. But you may be wondering what the best way to accomplish this is. With so many options, it can be overwhelming to try and figure out the best course of action. Let’s take a look at some of these options, discuss their purpose, and highlight how they can impact your business for the better. **Access Control**: Implementing proper access control allows you the ability to control who can access your business as well as when they would be permitted access. Implementing card readers or access codes gives you the peace of mind of knowing that your building security is functioning and keeping the premises safe. **CCTV**: Surveillance cameras are always a good addition to any security system. Having strategically placed cameras allows you to fully monitor your business and premises. Systems that allow for live video as well as video playback, play a vital role in the investigation and prevention of crimes and/or vandalism. Alarms: Burglar and fire alarms are not only useful, but life-saving. Being alerted to potential threats as they are happening can be the difference between getting out safely or not. Having an alarm can deter vandals and thieves before any damage is done. **Monitoring**: Having a monitoring station that is dedicated to alerting you in the event of an alarm is imperative to your security system. At the first sign of trouble, you will be contacted and the police or fire department can be dispatched to site immediately. This can save thousands of dollars in damage as well as ensure that every person who enters your building is safe. **Live Monitoring**: Live monitoring allows you to take a proactive approach to your security, instead of being reactive. You won’t wait for an alarm to trigger in order to take action – live agents monitor a live feed of your building as well as the property surrounding it so they can notify you immediately of any strange or unplanned behavior. For instance, if unauthorized individuals are on the premises. An integrated security system that uses all of the options listed above is your best approach to protecting your business. For more information, you can always reach out to us. Our dedicated team of Security Experts will work with you to provide you the answers you need and find the best approach for your business. Consultation, quoting, and security audits are always performed free of charge so you can make sure that you are getting the most out of your investment.

Ainger Cabling + Security offers leasing on cabling and equipment installations Would you like to replace or upgrade your current communications or security systems without putting a strain on your cash flow? Ainger Cabling + Security now offers leasing for all equipment and installations of cabling, phone & security systems. Here are 7 reasons why you should lease your purchase: 1 Gain 100% financing with no down payment. All hardware, software & cabling can be financed 100% with amortization choices to meet your needs. 2 Conserve valuable working capital to be used more effectively for other purposes. 3 Acquire ease of budgeting and inflation protection by using leasing as an alternative source of financing. This allows you to acquire the equipment you need without limiting your ability to finance inventory or greater short-term needs. 4 Avoid obsolescence - Leasing allows you to use the equipment that you need over the term in which that equipment will be useful to you. Leasing allows you all the benefits of ownership without the risk of being committed to obsolete technology. 5 Enjoy ease of acquisition - one stop shopping for both the equipment and the financing that best fits your budget and payment terms. 6 Get tax advantages - Due to accounting and tax treatment of leases, a lease may provide some tax-timing benefits to your business. The savings would depend on the type of equipment, lease terms and your marginal tax bracket. Generally lease payments can be treated as operating expenses and immediate deductibility. Your accountant will be able to advise you on this. 7 Benefit from self-financing - Lease payments are often made with the revenues generated or savings realized through the utilization of the leased equipment. IP-ENABLED SECURITY FEEDS

### Excellent Image Quality and Flexibility—Reasons You Should Consider IP Cameras We’ve all seen the images produced by poor quality security cameras. Television “true crime” programs show the choppy recordings of fleeing suspects and their indecipherable license plates. This alone is a reason to use IP cameras, but consider all the advantages: Amazing image quality: HDTV-level digital imaging offers crystal-clear recordings; Flexible installation: Operated wired or wirelessly, on your network, IP cameras don’t require a lot of cable infrastructure—all you need is a router; Two-Way Audio: Communicate with what you see in your image with a built-in intercom system; Secure information transmission: Data encryption technology allows information to be shared throughout your network; Call Ainger Cabling and Security today at 613.226.9937 or email us and ask about the advantages of using IP cameras for your establishment’s security.
